Witch hunting is a curse for Adivasis.

At the beginning of 2009, one more Adivasi woman was killed in the name of witch-hunting in Jharkhand. 45 year old Sukhmani Barla of Arhara village of Kamdara block near Ranchi was chopped by her neighbour Bagda Munda alleging her of being a witch. Bagda Munda's daughter Saniya Munda had been suffering from illness for last three years and finally she died on January 2.

HC dismisses plea against Tribal Christian's ST status.

The Jharkhand High Court on Thursday rejected the petitioners' plea that challenged the continuation of reservation and other privilege to Tribals who have converted to Christianity and other religions.

SC/ST walfare slogan a mere rhetoric?

The Stateís Scheduled Tribe and Caste population continue to languish at the bottom of the development index, even as the Naveen Patnaik-led Government is set to make SC-ST welfare a major issue in its bid for a third term at the helm. With tribal population constituting 22 per cent and Scheduled Castes 16 per cent, together accounting for over one-third of the total population of the State.
