The Gujjars on Wednesday called off their 27-day violent agitation following an agreement with the Rajasthan government. What is assured to them now falls short of their demand for Scheduled Tribe status .

Knowledge of at least one tribal language is essential for govt. officials in Jharkhand.

Jharkhand government has decided to  make knowledge of at least one tribal language is compulsory  for government officials. Ho, Mundari, Kurukh and Santhali are the main tribal language of Jharkhand. Knowledge of one of these four tribal language will be essential to get promotion, increment and salary of the government officials in Jharkhand.

Tribals threaten to lock Government primary school.

 The Pradesh Manjhi Parganit, Munda Manki, Dokolo Sohar,  Mahato-Pahra Mahasamiti have decided to start an agitation to fight for the rights of the tribals in the State. The organisation has demanded that if the Government does not recognise the five tribal languages, Santhali, Kurukh, Mundari, Ho, and Kharia and start primary education in their mother tongue upto March 31, 2008......

Jharkhand move to administer tribal areas under Supreme Court scanner.

The Jharkhand Government's move to administer its tribal areas has come under judicial scanner with the Supreme Court issuing notice on a petition that states the Centre to be the sole administrator of Tribal or Scheduled Areas under the Constitution.
